Alzheimer's and related dementias can indeed be challenging for both the affected individuals and their loved ones. With dozens of years of experience working with residents with Alzheimer's or related dementias, our dedicated care team with specialized training can make a significant difference in our resident's quality of life.
One method we use in our community is consistent staffing, which is crucial in dementia care as it helps establish trust and familiarity for individuals with cognitive impairments. Having familiar faces around can reduce anxiety and confusion, allowing residents to feel more comfortable in their environment. We also deploy a number of other methods of care that can be beneficial for individuals with Alzheimer's or dementia:Person-centered care: We tailor care plans to the individual's preferences, needs, and abilities. This approach helps maintain their sense of identity and dignity.
Creating a safe environment: Our Memory Support Community is secured but also aims to provide a living space that is safe and easy to navigate.
Maintaining a routine: We are all about predictable routines so we can provide structure and reduce anxiety. Consistent schedules for meals, activities, and rest are at the foundation of our day.
Encouraging social engagement: Stimulating social interactions can help maintain cognitive function and emotional well-being. Activities like group discussions, music therapy, or arts and crafts are used regularly.
Validation and empathy: We know that individuals with dementia can be confused and frustrated. That is why we practice active listening and respond with empathy. We like to get to know our residents, not just as they are today but who they are over a lifetime of experiences.
Physical activity: We encourage light exercise or movement tailored to each resident's abilities. Activity can help with physical health and improve mood and cognition.
Nutrition: We offer a balanced and nutritious diet, and accommodate any specific dietary needs.
Caring for caregivers: We are on this journey together. We are here to support you and provide resources to assist you in coping with the challenges Alzheimer's and related dementias present.
We know that every individual with dementia is unique, and what works well for one person may not be as effective for another. We continuously assess the person's needs and preferences, and adapt the care approach accordingly. We are here to support you and your loved one every step of the way. -
Respite care is temporary, short-term care provided to individuals who require assistance or support due to disability, illness, or age-related conditions.
Being a full-time caregiver can be physically and emotionally draining. Respite care is temporary, short-term care provided to individuals who require assistance or support due to disability, illness, or age-related conditions. It is designed to offer relief and a break to primary caregivers. The primary goal of respite care is to give caregivers an opportunity to rest, recharge, and take care of their own well-being while ensuring that the person receiving care remains safe and well-supported.
Benefits of respite care include:
Caregiver Relief:
Respite care gives primary caregivers a chance to take a break from their caregiving duties, reducing burnout and stress associated with constant caregiving responsibilities.
Prevents Caregiver Strain:
Respite care allows caregivers to maintain their own well-being and avoid becoming overwhelmed.
Improved Caregiver Health:
Taking breaks through respite care can lead to improved mental and physical health for the primary caregiver.
Quality of Care:
Respite care is provided by trained and professional caregivers to ensure that the person receiving care is looked after appropriately and receives the necessary support.
Social Interaction:
Respite care can offer opportunities for the person receiving care to interact with others, reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness.
Peace of Mind:
Knowing that your loved one is well-cared for during the respite period can provide peace of mind for the primary caregiver, enabling them to enjoy their time away.
Enhanced Family Relationships:
Respite care can strengthen family relationships by allowing caregivers to spend quality time with other family members without the added stress of caregiving.
If you need a break, we are here to help. We can help you get the break you need while supporting the heath and well-being of your loved one.

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) are essential self-care tasks that individuals typically perform on a daily basis to take care of themselves and maintain basic functional independence. These activities are essential for an individual's well-being and overall quality of life. ADLs are often used as a measure to assess a person's ability to function independently or to determine the level of care they may need.
There are six primary ADLs:
Personal Hygiene: Activities related to maintaining personal cleanliness and grooming, such as bathing or showering, brushing teeth, washing hands, and grooming hair.
Dressing: Putting on and taking off clothes, including managing buttons, zippers, and other fasteners.
Eating: Preparing meals and the ability to feed oneself, including the use of utensils, cutting food, and drinking from a glass or cup.
Transferring: Moving from one position to another, such as getting in and out of bed, chairs, or a wheelchair.
Continence: The ability to control bowel and bladder functions.
Toileting: Managing personal needs in the bathroom, including using the toilet and maintaining personal hygiene.
In our community, we assist with personal hygiene, dressing, cooking and meal preparation, transportation, medication management and more on an as needed basis. We design a care plan for each person's unique needs to help them remain as independent and healthy as long as possible. We offer many different levels of care and welcome the opportunity to work with you or your loved one directly to determine what is best.
